Having been a past participant for many years, I know regardless of how a driver responds, whether it’s in anger, a show of approval, or a blank stare somehow, they are impacted by the truth. What the motorists see are grotesque pictures of abortion amplifying the depravity of man while showing the most cruel and selfish side of man that has impacted our culture tremendously over the past 50 years. When people think of abortion, the subject often isn’t given much thought as we hear things like, ‘it’s murder, and ‘its her choice.’ Seeing the signs put the matter in a whole new perspective.
Not only that, when told that 1 out of 7 women past the age of 22 has had an abortion people become more sensitive to the matter. People start thinking, hmmm, that could be someone I stand in line at the checkout with, or maybe that could be the lady next to me at the gym on that elliptical machine, or yet someone at church which doesn’t preclude someone at Bible Study. An important thing to remember is that each woman who has had an abortion deals with post abortive syndrome which includes compacted grief. If you can imagine banging your head against a wall repeatedly that’s what it’s like emotionally for women who’ve had abortions. By aborting their child, a woman has committed the most unnatural act imaginable. God designed women and men to care for their children but through abortion, a woman has gone against her intended role by going so far as to murder her child. Since every woman is different, post abortive syndrome manifests itself in numerous ways including eating disorders, anxiety, depression, insomnia, insistence on over working, and difficulty with subsequent pregnancies. With the post abortive woman responding the way they do internally, then there’s no conceivable way those around her are not affected as well. When people see that there’s no insistence on protecting life inside the womb, there’s less reason to cherish it outside the womb.
So, while the pictures are grotesque, they are meant to convey the point that our society not only allows this procedure but supports it. I say support because states throughout our land draws money from the tax-payer dollars yearly to fund abortion. Now, post abortive women are told to be proud of their abortion.
From a theological perspective, we’ve been told for centuries that the law serves as a tutor to show us our transgressions and need for repentance. What better way than to show our short coming by these hideous pictures of abortion while also reminding ourselves of times that we haven’t sought to defend our neighbor’s life.
