The Importance of Fair Treatment of People in the Marketplace

There are many forms of mistreating people. One evidence is economic planning also known as central planning. Politicians, businesses, outside interests, and bureaucrats have been notoriously coming together to devise what they feel are the best ways to develop parts of major cities and areas throughout the prospective states. This is evident with sports teams and casinos coming into the various states and even major cities promising economic benefits to the prospective areas while securing tax advantages at the expense of taxpayers and businesses in their areas. Various city and state officials will try to revitalize parts of their jurisdiction and their state with clever tax incentives which once again means shifting the tax burden to other parts of the community. State and local governments provide special financing packages to corporations often known as TIFs (Taxpayer Incremented Financing) which once again shifts the tax burden.

So, our economic planning which truly ought to be driven by individual choice and personal allocation of resources has become a den of robbers. Instead of these central planning approaches, couldn’t we consider flat property and income taxes for everyone in our cities and states? What if we made concerted efforts to eliminate cost barriers for new and existing businesses and new construction? What if we eliminated tax except status for non-profits and charities knowing that it’s disposable income that drives giving? This would once again recognize that central planners fall short in determining the best vehicles to reach people in need as they repeatedly ignore the help that comes from friends, family member, and independent community driven solutions. Also, what if we did comprehensive audits of every state agency and with the waste found, pass the savings on to taxpayers?

These are just a few ideas that take into consideration the principle of promoting fairness and people’s right to exercise their God-given freedom.
